GMSC Racing Schedule:
Download to Your PC/Mac/PDA
2009 Centerboard Schedule: Fixed for Safari
You can download the 2009 Centerboard schedule right into your calendar. From
there it goes to your PDA next time you synchronize it with your PC.
I use this with Outlook, but it will work with any other calendar that allows importing an "internet
calendar," "virtual calendar," "iCalendar," "iCal,"
or ".ics" file. Instructions below
are for Outlook; the process for other calendars should be similar. Safari users on Macs: Safari
should be able import this new version. It worked on the one Mac where I tried
it, anyway. Safari didn't know what to do with the previous version. (Safari
doesn't recognize electronic calendars that are .vcs files, it can handle only
.ics files, which are the 2nd generation of .vcs.)
TWO WARNINGS
1. As of this writing (27 July 09), the Harbor Gun times for the Labor Day Regatta and
the Sailoffs are still tentative on the GMSC site (4 race days). This calendar uses suggested times,
but bear in mind they are not official. This calendar will be updated when the
official GMSC schedule is updated, but that won't change the entries in your
calendar. 2. The Harbor Gun has been decreed to be 13:00 for regular
non-regatta race days (as of 30 Apr 09). Who knows whether it will change again.
Hasn't changed, yet, as of 27 July. With
these warnings in mind, you might use the first option below, it will be easier
to redo if the times should change.
How To
You can keep the schedule as a separate calendar or merge it into your regular
calendar. As a separate calendar, you can view it on its own or overlay it with
your regular calendar. Keeping it separate will make it easy to delete the
entire schedule and start over when the tentative times are fixed. Otherwise you
can manually update those 4 entries.
Import as separate calendar
The process is really simple:
-
Click download schedule
-
Click Open in the dialog
-
Outlook will open and display the schedule
Let me know if you need me to explain that further. ;-)
If you don't like it as a separate calendar, delete it and follow the directions
below. To delete it, right-click on the schedule calendar tab and select
"Delete 2009CenterboardSchedule.ics..." and your sins will be
forgiven.
Import into your regular calendar
This way is a little more trouble, you have to save it to your PC, then open the
file you saved. Here's how to do it using Outlook on a PC:
-
Click download schedule
-
Click Save in the dialog
-
Save it to your PC (remember where you saved it)
-
In Outlook, in the File menu, click "Import and Export..."
-
Select "Import an iCalendar (.ics) or vCalendar (.vcs)"
- In the
Browse dialog, find the file you saved (it's named
"2009CenterboardSchedule.ics" unless you changed it). If it doesn't appear, be sure to select
"iCalendar Format (*.ics)" in the "Files of type:" box
-
Select the file you saved and click OK
-
Outlook will display the schedule
If you're using a calendar other than Outlook, the process should be pretty
similar, just play around with it.
